Auto maintenance is your responsibility!

As the seasons finally change from summer to fall here in Kentucky, it’s a good time for vehicle owners to do a routine maintenance check. Kentucky law requires that owners of motor vehicles keep those vehicles in good working order. That means making sure the headlights, tail lights, and turn signals work; making sure your brakes are in good shape; your tires have sufficient tread on them.

The roads get more treacherous moving into what could be a rainy fall and unpredictable winter. If you don’t keep your car in good shape, well, that’s not only a poor choice in terms of taking care of a big investment, but it’s also irresponsible. A car without working headlights, or well-maintained brakes, or with bald tires is a dangerous vehicle. It is difficult to see at night or in the rain, harder to stop, and harder to control. If you don’t make sure those things are corrected, it’s much easier to get in a car accident, and much easier to hurt someone else on the roadways.

If you’ve been in a car accident that was the result of a mechanical failure, you only can pass some of that liability off to the mechanic that did the work if you didn’t know or had no reason to know that there was still a problem. Even then, it’s a difficult thing to prove.
